The Autumn Colors of Tennessee

Fall explodes on Tennessee’s landscape, offering unparalleled, panoramic views and miles upon miles of scenic beauty.

More than 400 species of deciduous trees create a blanket of deep orange, crimson and yellow that sweeps across the state from the Great Smoky Mountains to the Mississippi River. Flocks of migrating birds dot the sky, and evening temperatures cool as the sun sets on the shorter days of fall.

Bursts of color become visible in East Tennessee and flow gently westward across the state. Historically, the eastern color peaks during the last two weeks in October, and the western color peaks during the last two weeks in November. The varying elevations and large number of foliage species make Tennessee one of the most diverse states for viewing the changing colors of fall.
