77th Annual Middle Tennessee Strawberry Festival

PORTLAND, Tenn. – The 77th Annual Middle Tennessee Strawberry Festival will be held May 12 in downtown Portland. This year’s theme is “Stars, Stripes and Strawberries,” which honors current members of the U.S. Armed Forces & veterans as Grand Marshals for the parade. Members of the 101st Airborne and National Guard have been invited and plan to participate in the parade, as well as local veteran groups.

There are events scheduled throughout the week as well:

May 3:  National Day of Prayer Breakfast at Portland First Baptist Church at 7am. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at The Portland Chamber of Commerce.

May 5:  Strawberry Pageant sponsored by Portland High School Cheerleaders (applications available at www.middletnstrawberryfestival.com).

May 5:  Health & Safety Day at Richland Park sponsored by Portland Police Department from 8-11am. There will be emergency vehicles, a bicycle safety course, inflatable, giveaways and more!

May 8-12:  Come enjoy the Carnival fun sponsored by Portland Band Boosters all week long at Richland Park

May 8:  Annual Strawberry Golf Tournament at Kenny Perry’s Country Creek Golf Course. Four-person scramble begins at 8am. Team fee is $360 and includes breakfast & lunch.

May 9:  Strawberry Story Hour at the Portland Public Library at 3:30pm

May 11:  Strawberry Slam Wrestling Event featuring Jerry “The King” Lawler at 7:30pm at the Portland High School gym. Visit www.prowrestlingent.com or The Portland Chamber of Commerce to purchase tickets.

May 12:  Festival Day

  • Portland Rotary Club Pancake Breakfast starts at 7am at First Baptist Portland
  • Strawberry Stride 5K Run and Fun Run sponsored by Portland High School Athletics starts at 8am at Portland High School (application available at www.middletnstrawberryfestival.com)
  • Game Stage – Strawberry Eating contests, Bingo and more begin at Noon! (Games are free. There is limited space, pre-registration suggested)
  • Kid Town USA, where it’s all about the kids, starts at 9am. Main Street is full of inflatables, obstacle courses and more. Play all day for $5.
  • Strawberry Jam Live Entertainment from 10am – 4pm on the Market Street stage
  • Strawberry Lane – Strawberries for sale beginning at 11am until they are gone!
  • Sumner County Worship Choir at 11am
  • Purchase souvenirs (t-shirts, ornaments and coins), get festival brochures & information and put your hometown on our map at the Where are you From Booth. The first 500 people to mark where you are from & visit the booth will receive a handheld American flag.
  • More than 100 Food, Craft and Information Vendors in the Lion’s Club Vendor Area
  • Storyteller Elizabeth Rose at 1pm in the First Baptist Sanctuary
  • Mascot Meet & Greet begins at 3pm at the Game Stage followed by the Mascot Race at 3:45pm
  • Parade begins at 4pm (application available at www.middletnstrawberryfestival.com)
  • Free Concert featuring Four on the Floor on the Market Street stage at 6pm. Bring a lawn chair or rent one for $2. Come enjoy great music from the 60’s all the way to today’s hits.
  • Anthem Artist Joe Everson and Fireworks Display immediately following the concert at 8:30pm!

There will be free parking available at Portland High School with a shuttle beginning 10 a.m.
