CHATTANOOGA WELCOMES CHRISTMAS WITH HOLIDAY STARLIGHT AND LIGHTED BOAT PARADES DEC. 8

Nov 9 2012 Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Holiday Starlight Parade, a Chattanooga holiday tradition, will start at 6 p.m. Dec. 8. The event has taken on a new twist this season, with the street parade being immediately followed by the popular Lighted Boat Parade at 7 p.m. which will be viewable from Ross’ Landing.

“The holidays are a special time for families, and this parade is a great way to kick off the season right here in our hometown,” said Scott Wilson of Volkswagen Chattanooga, the presenting sponsor for the event.

In order to facilitate viewing for both parades, the Holiday Starlight Parade has adjusted its route to be closer to the waterfront. It will now begin at 5th and Market Street and end at 5th and Broad Street. Parade-goers are encouraged to head afterwards to Ross’ Landing for the Lighted Boat Parade directly following the street parade.

The procession for the Holiday Starlight Parade is expected to feature over fifty entries, consisting of regional bands, floats, walking units, and more - all strung with festive holiday lights. Volunteers will also be walking along the parade route, handing out candy and other treats to kids young and old.  However, the most anticipated entry is always saved for last – Santa – arriving with lots of pomp and good cheer.

The Holiday Starlight Parade will be taped for television and broadcasted by WRBC –TV3 at 1 p.m. Dec. 22.
