Give Fleece a Chance During Sheep Shearing and Wool Week at the Homeplace 1850s Working Farm

LAND BETWEEN THE LAKES, Ky./Tenn. – Programs dedicated to working with wool take place April 14-18 at the Homeplace 1850s Working Farm at Land Between the Lakes.

Visitors are invited to get hands-on experience and lend a hand preparing the new fleeces for spinning into yarn.

Invited artist, Gary Larson will give Homeplace sheep their haircut for the year, 1850s-style, on Sheep Shearing Day 10 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m. Saturday, April 14.

Programs included with regular admission: ages 13 and up $5; ages 5-12 $3; ages 4 and under are free.

Fourth grade students can go to https://www.everykidinapark.gov/, get their free Every Kid in a Park pass, and their family can attend for free.

Sheep Shearing Day Saturday, April 14 program schedule:

•             11 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Give Fleece a Chance: This the way we wash the wool

•             10 a.m. to noon & 1-3 p.m. – Going to the “Baa-bar Shop”: Spring Sheep Shearing

•             Noon to 1 p.m. – Meet and Greet with Sheep

Wool Week: Give Fleece a Chance 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily program schedule:

•             Saturday, April 14 | This is the Way we Wash our Wool

•             Sunday, April 15 | The Rainbow Connection – Natural Dye 

•             Monday, April 16 | We can Work It Out – Carding Wool 

•             Tuesday, April 17 | Let the Spinning Wheel Turn – Making Yarn 

•             Wednesday, April 18 | We Can Ply, We Can Ply, We Can Ply! – Twisting Yarn
