OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – The Oak Ridge Chorus, led by Jaclyn Johnson, chorus director, will lead a night of American music 7:30 p.m. April 29 at the First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge.
The concert will feature inspirational music of the U.S. through folk songs, spirituals, and many well-known classics of the Broadway stage, including music from Les Miserables, Hairspray, and Wicked.
“As I was preparing music for this concert and deciding what pieces would best highlight the beautiful voices of the Oak Ridge Chorus, a theme began to emerge: music by American composers,” said Jaclyn Johnson, chorus director. “America has a rich tradition of creating music that sounds distinctly “American” from jazz and blues, to spirituals and folk songs, to the music of Broadway. This concert will be sure to delight audience members from every walk of life!”
The Oak Ridge Civic Music Association is a participant in the Penny4Arts program and offers free admission for students 18 and younger to all Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra and Chorus performances.
Tickets for adults are $15; young adults ages 19-29 are $5.
Support for the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association is provided by the Tennessee Arts Commission and WUOT FM 91.9.
