MCMINNVILLE, Tenn. – The annual World Peace Day celebration takes place 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23 at Isha Institute of Inner-sciences.
Held in conjunction with United Nations’ International Day of Peace, Isha has assembled family-friendly activities, entertainment and interactive programs—all of which underscore peace.
Highlights include: renowned Indian dance troupe Spanda; Nashville-based folk/rock band Humming House; special Yoga for Peace programs; an inspirational film screened across the ceiling of Isha’s massive, domed meditation hall; an interactive learning pavilion, and more.
Food and drink—globally inspired vegetarian selections along with a tasty and creative juice bar—are available for purchase throughout the day.
Additional activities include hiking nature trails, playing outdoor games and exploring the campus. Admission and activities for World Peace Day are free (except the food and juice bar). Visitors should register to attend at www.worldpeaceday.org.
Isha, a classical yoga and meditation center, is ideally situated in the scenic Upper Cumberland region— only a 90-minute drive from Nashville—and features a sprawling 1,400-acre wooded campus with several waterfalls, stunning bluff vistas and more. Recently, Travel and Leisure named it one of the best spiritual retreats in the world, and Southern Living called it a “majestic yoga retreat.”
Yoga for Peace kicks off World Peace Day at 11 a.m. and will be offered throughout the day. Each session, paced for ages 7 and up and all skill levels, provides helpful tips on how to channel inner peace by taking a few minutes each day with this practice.
A handy itinerary lets visitors shape their day— think hiking, game-playing, relaxing, interacting and more—as they choose.
The learning pavilion will feature interactive information about how environmental initiatives can facilitate peace, particularly water conservation and revitalization of rivers.
Visitors will congregate in Mahima— Isha’s massive, copper-domed meditation hall—to enjoy live entertainment by dance troupe Spanda, followed by Humming House 4:30 p.m. CT.
Spanda, an Indian dance company choreographed by the respected and acclaimed Leela Samson, will perform its latest production, Nadi, a contemporary and interpretive dance about rivers.
The folksy, roots rock band Humming House mixes foot-tapping tunes with thoughtful lyrics. Recently signed to Soundly Music and Sony Red, Humming House will release its album, Companion, in October.
Following, visitors can watch an inspiring film that will raise awareness about the need for river revitalization and its connection to global peace.
Registration is recommended. Isha is an alcohol and drug-free campus.
