GRANVILLE, Tenn. – The 20th Annual Granville Heritage Day will feature the annual Uncle Jimmy Thompson Bluegrass Festival beginning 10 a.m. May 26 in downtown Granville.
The Bluegrass Festival will have a bluegrass competition and bluegrass bands performing throughout the day. Performances include the Bilbreys at 10 a.m.; Everymena Evergreen Cloggers 11 a.m.; Jolly String Quartet 11:30 a.m.; Honoring of Marty and Charmine Lanham 12:30 p.m.; and the Uncle Jimmy Thompson Grand Champion Fiddle Competition beginning 1 p.m.
Registration for the competition will be 10-11 a.m. with an entry fee of $5.
The prize money for winners will be $225 for first, $175 for second and $125 for third with the winner performing center stage at the Birthplace of Bluegrass Music during Springer Mountain Farms Bluegrass Nights at the Ryman Show on June 21 with Dailey and Vincent.
Following the competition, attendees can enjoy performances from Evermean Evergreen Cloggers 2:30 p.m.; Jolly String Quartet 3 p.m.; and Ida Clare Bluegrass Band 4 p.m.
The festival is honored to have the opportunity to honor Marty and Charmaine Lanham. Marty has been involved in almost every aspect of bluegrass music in Tennessee for the past 45 years. In 1974, he co-founded the Station Inn, the longest running bluegrass venue in the world, in Nashville with his wife, Charmaine. His career includes banjo player in Wilma Lee Cooper’s Clinch Mountain Clan. Charmaine was executive director and co-founder of the Nashville Bluegrass Music Association. She produced the first bluegrass concert at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center. She has been playing guitar in bluegrass bands since 1974. Marty and Charmaine have performed with his band at the Dixie Café in Byrdstown, Tennessee since introducing bluegrass music there in 2004.
The Bluegrass Festival is sponsored by Bates Ford of Lebanon, Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Wildwood Resort & Marina Granville and Bluegrass Nights at the Ryman.
