SAVANNAH, TN – Dec. 3, 2019 – Lights, music and Christmas fun will liven up the 2019 Christmas on Main Dec. 6-20 in Savannah, Tennessee.
The City of Savannah will kick off the holiday season with its signature series of downtown events beginning with Christmas on Main lighting up town Dec. 6, followed by the long-running favorite Country Christmas on Dec. 6-8 at Hardin County High School. Entertainment will begin with Mayor Bob Shutt turning on the 30-foot community Christmas tree at the downtown gazebo.
A canopy of lights will be strung across the Courthouse plaza showcasing performances, a variety of children's activities, and appearances by a variety of holiday characters. New this year is a definite snowy forecast during the festivities.
Main street businesses in downtown Savannah will be outlined in white lights as the series gets in the spirit of the season with activities held over consecutive weekends on Dec. 6-7, Dec. 13-14, and Dec. 20.
Carolers, cocoa and food vendors will be available each Friday and Saturday night through Dec. 20 around the plaza and at the new Savannah Market. There will be appearances by Santa, Mrs. Claus and local church and school performers each evening 5-8:30 p.m. There will be free parking destinations with complimentary trolley service.
The highlight of Christmas on Main is an ice skating rink under the lights of the pavilion at the new Savannah Market. Skating is free.
Free Christmas performances on the courthouse steps, a hall of trees in the Tennessee River Museum, Santa’s workshop in the Courthouse basement, free Christmas movies in the historic Savannah Theater, with children’s activities, music and lights are highlights of the festival.
Free, traditional carriage rides through downtown Savannah to the river view at historic Cherry Mansion will also take place. Begin your adventure at the Market.
Additionally, Christmas in the Park at Pickwick Landing State Park Dec. 13-14. The annual Holiday Mart is open noon to 9 p.m. Dec. 13 and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 14 inside Pickwick Inn. Free carriage and wagon rides to view the light displays; Breakfast with Santa and a petting zoo on Saturday, Dec. 14; and bedtime stories with the elves each evening are scheduled.
