CLARKSVILLE, TN – April 5, 2019 – Clarksville's oldest professional theatre takes audiences from Versailles to the guillotine with a stylistic and satirical retelling of the life and final days of the most famous queen of France with David Adjmi’s “Marie Antoinette,” running April 12-27 at the Roxy Regional Theatre.
Lucy Given stars as Marie, a confection created by a society that values extravagance and artifice, who delights and inspires her French subjects with her three-foot tall wigs and extravagant haute couture. Times change and even the most fashionable queens go out of style. As revolution brews and France's love affair with the royals sours, the political suddenly becomes very personal for Atoinette.
From the light and breezy banter at the palace to the surging chants of "Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite!" in the streets, David Adjmi's humorous and haunting take on the doomed young queen of France holds a mirror up to contemporary society that might just be entertaining itself to death.
“Marie Antoinette” is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc., and is produced in part by Stuart & Peggy Bonnington and John & Cathy Stanton.
Due to strong language and adult situations, this production is intended for mature audiences only.
In keeping with the theatre's traditional pay-what-you-can opening night 8 p.m. April 12, all tickets not pre-sold at the full price will go on sale at 7:30 p.m. that evening for a $5 minimum donation.
Performances run April 12-27 7 p.m. Thursdays and 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays with a 2 p.m. matinee Saturday, April 20.
