MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Scarecrows, lotus blooms, libations, barbecue, silent auction and good times are all in season at the Lichterman Nature Center. Visitors are invited the annual Scarecrow Display Sept. 13-Nov. 16 and Stomp in The Swamp 5-8 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Lichterman Nature Center.
The Scarecrow Display features scarecrows created by local groups, teams, organizations and individuals who have entered the Scarecrow Contest. Those interested can sign up for the contest. The deadline to submit an entry is Friday, Sept. 7. Contest judging will be Sept. 13.
Stomp in the Swamp is an annual fundraising event with proceeds going to Lichterman Nature Center. The event includes a silent auction with a variety of interesting items up for bid including art, jewelry, dining, theme baskets, movie tickets, pottery, wood working items and chocolate bars full of secret gift prizes. There will be food, adult beverages and live music.
During the fall, Lichterman Nature Center will also host its Fall STEM Camp for kids Oct. 8-12. Kids will be able to meet live animals and hike in nature while participating in true experimental science and meet a scientist from a different STEM field every day.
