MAYNARDVILLE, TN – Feb. 21, 2019 – Maynardville is now home to The Union County Opry.
Union County is home to music legends like Roy Acuff, Chet Atkins, Carl Smith, Kenny Chesney, Lois Johnson, Hilda Kitts Harrill, and Melba Kitts Greene. The Union County Opry will celebrate this rich heritage by showcasing local talent. The first show will feature live bluegrass and country music April 20 in the local high school auditorium. Shows will be held on Saturdays once a month.
The Union County Opry will provide scholarships to graduating high school seniors pursuing a degree and career in music and the organization will pursue a long-term goal of constructing an event center to host music and other events.
The Tennessee Department of Tourist Development has focused on promoting the music heritage of Tennessee, with seven genres of music calling Tennessee home, the department has recently established Tennessee Music Pathways. Tourism is Tennessee’s second largest industry.
