MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis Brooks Museum of Art hosts a reception and panel discussion with some of Saudi Arabia’s leading contemporary artists with a reception 6 p.m. and the discussion at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11 in the Dorothy K. Hohenberg Auditorium.
Art Museum of the University of Memphis Assistant Director and exhibition co-curator, Edmund Warren Perry Jr, will lead the discussion. Perry traveled to Saudi Arabia earlier this year to explore the emerging Saudi contemporary art scene.
This discussion is part of outreach efforts for “Desert to Delta: Saudi Contemporary Art in Memphis TN,” Tennessee’s first large-scale contemporary art exhibition from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on view now through Jan. 6, 2018 at the Art Museum of the University of Memphis.
Comparisons between Saudi Arabia and Memphis are truly striking in the arts. In the same way that music made a name for Memphis in the 1950s and 1960s, today a generation of young visual and video artists is putting contemporary art from Saudi Arabia on the international cultural map.
“From Desert to Delta: Saudi Contemporary Art in Memphis, TN” is organized by the Art Museum of the University of Memphis in collaboration with King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture, and is coordinated by CULTURUNNERS.
