Grammy Award winner Larry Gatlin wraps Dixie Live Concert Series June 17

HUNTINGDON, Tenn. – The 2016-17 Dixie Live Concert Series ends on a high note when Grammy Award winner Larry Gatlin takes the stage 2 p.m. Saturday, June 17 at The Dixie Carter Performing Arts & Enrichment Center. Tickets are $25.

With his brothers Steve and Rudy, Gatlin has been dazzling audiences for more than 60 years. The brothers launched their career in Abilene, Texas in 1955 singing Gospel music. As children, their music took them coast-to-coast. They sang at the 1964 World’s Fair in New York City and recorded four Gospel records.

In 1966, Larry Gatlin enrolled in the University of Houston where he studied English and law. He auditioned for the legendary Imperials, Elvis Presley’s backup group in 1971, where he met Dottie West, who was opening at the time for Jimmy Dean. Gatlin soon sent her eight songs he had written, and she sent him a plane ticket to Nashville.

In 1976, Gatlin’s brothers joined him to form Larry Gatlin & the Gatlin Brothers and were inducted into the Grand Ole Opry. They topped the charts and won a Grammy for “Broken Lady,” and the hits kept coming with their signature song “All the Gold in California” followed by “Houston (Means I’m One Day Closer to You),” “I Don’t Wanna Cry,” “I Just Wish You Were Someone I Love,” “Statues Without Hearts,” “Love is Just a Game,” and “Night Time Magic.”

In 1992, Larry Gatlin & the Gatlin Brothers embarked on their Adios Tour and released an album of the same name. Gatlin went on to star in the hit Broadway musical “The Will Rogers Follies.” He and his brothers reunited and hit the road again in 2002 and currently perform 40-50 dates a year. Their most recent record is a Gospel album called Larry Gatlin & the Gatlin Brothers – The Gospel According to Gatlin.
