October 2, 2021 - Huntingdon, Tenn. - Turning sixteen is a pivotal milestone for most everyone, and The Dixie is no exception as they proudly celebrate their Sweet Sixteen in historic downtown Huntingdon, providing top-tier musical talent, professionally taught art classes, and culturally rich exhibits since 2005.
Named after the local leading lady herself, Dixie Carter, The Dixie Carter Performing Arts and Academic Enrichment Center is nationally known and recognized as a featured stop on the Tennessee Music Pathways. Located halfway between Sun Records in Memphis and the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, The Dixie provides premium entertainment to a 471-seat house, right in the heart of West TN. The Dixie’s own Hal Holbrook Theatre is equipped with the best views and sounds an intimate venue can offer thanks to actor Hal Holbrook, Dixie’s husband, and his unparalleled knowledge of both stage and screen.
In the spirit of a true Sweet Sixteen celebration, The Dixie has thoughtfully crafted the 2021-2022 Performance Series lineup. With acts from Texas Songwriter Hall of Fame member Robert Earl Keen, to two time B.B. King Entertainer of the Year winner Tab Benoit, to Forever Motown performing the hits of Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, and more. The Dixie has planned for more than just music; Henry Cho will be bringing his signature stand-up comedy act, and later next year, The Dixie will premiere its Designing Women Market - a carefully curated showcase featuring some of West Tennessee’s most talented female designers. With purchase options from pottery and paintings to floral arrangements and vintage flair, there will be something for everyone.
In addition to the Performance Series, the stage will continue to host the ever-popular Education Series and The Missoula Children’s Theatre. And what’s a good Sweet Sixteen without a few surprises? Be sure to keep an eye on social media and their website for additional pop-up events sprinkled throughout the season.
The Dixie is proudly supported by their presenting partners Carroll Bank & Trust, FirstBank, and Premier Realty Group that are instrumental in affecting the culture and economic development of Huntingdon, Carroll County and West Tennessee. This Sweet Sixteen season is sponsored in part by a grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission at tnartscommission.org.
Season tickets will be available beginning Monday, August 9, at 10AM and will include access to the entire Performance Series lineup and a 16% package discount. Tickets to the first five performances will be released to the general public Monday, August 16, at 10AM. An additional release is scheduled for Tuesday, November 16, at 10AM for the remaining list of performances.
