GATLINBURG, Tenn. (March 14, 2022) — Responding to popular demand, Gatlinburg SkyLift Park will bring back the Rucksack Circus for multiple highline shows March 21-23. Daring performers from the highline team will anchor a line on each side of the mountains, running alongside the SkyBridge, 150 feet above the valley floor. The line will span approximately 75 yards on the bridge’s city side.
During each performance, a member of the highline team will provide commentary and will be available for guest questions. Guests can also try line-walking themselves on a short line on the SkyDeck.
Because the first SkyWalk event in 2020 was such a success, with record crowds in attendance, SkyLift Park has added more shows, including two nighttime performances. Shows are scheduled for 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Monday, March 21; 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 22; and 10 a.m., 12 noon and 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23.
"We are all about offering unique experiences at the SkyLift Park,” says Marcus Watson, administrative manager of the park. “The SkyWalk event is another opportunity for our guests to see something extraordinary while visiting the SkyBridge."
Highlining is the act of walking at great heights on a “line” of webbing, generally made of nylon or polyester. It differs from traditional tightrope walking in several ways. Lines are rigged to a much lower tension, usually 1000 pounds or less, which can cause the line to swing and bounce freely, making for very dynamic movements. Additionally, performers do not walk with a balance pole or any stabilizing lines.
Tickets for the event are available at the Gatlinburg SkyLift Park ticket office or online at gatlinburgskylift.com.
