NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 25, 2023) – Scattered across Tennessee are some of the most truly haunted spots in all of America. From infamous prisons to alluring caves and abandoned hospitals, the state has a wide variety of paranormally active places just waiting to be uncovered and explored this fall season. Photos for media use only here.
Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary – Petros, TN
Opened in 1896 and closed just 14 years ago in 2009, this huge prison housed Tennessee’s most infamous criminals, including the alleged assassin of Martin Luther King, Jr. After 113 years of operation, the “End of the Line” has earned the reputation of being one of Tennessee’s most paranormally active locations, with numerous reports of footsteps, apparitions, and disembodied voices. Brushy Mountain is open for self-guided, public, private, and overnight paranormal tours and even has a distillery and restaurant on the property.
Old South Pittsburg Hospital – South Pittsburg, TN
Founded in the mid-1950’s, Old South Pittsburg Hospital operated until 1998 but has now reopened its doors to paranormal investigators and curious visitors who want to experience the haunted building. From reports of unexplained activity even during its operation by employees to current reports of dark shadow figures and doors slamming throughout the hospital, Old South Pittsburg is ready for you to discover. Private overnight investigations, as well as daytime tours and public investigations are available to book via their website.
Historic Scott County Jail – Huntsville, TN
Built in 1904 and housing inmates until 2008, Historic Scott County Jail recently reopened as a museum by day and a paranormal research center by night. With reported activity ranging from hearing disembodied voices, whispers, and footsteps to feeling hands touch your shoulders and witnessing pictures flying off the walls, the jail has been abounding with unexplained happenings. A truly thrilling and unforgettable experience, you can visit the Historic Scott County Jail for both museum tours and paranormal investigations.
Bell Witch Cave – Adams, TN
Feared by our 7th U.S. President Andrew Jackson himself and ripe with countless reports of mysterious activity, the Bell Witch Cave in Adams is a legendary haunted location. The same property where the Bell family was tormented by the Bell Witch back in the early 1800s, the land has seen a bit of everything in terms of unexplained activity, including rocks being throw to eerie noises and mysterious lights being caught on camera. Now partnered with Black Wolf Paranormal to host pubic overnight paranormal investigations, visitors have access to explore (at night) the Bell Witch cave, the replica cabin on site, and a Native American burial hill. Visit the Black Wolf Paranormal’s Facebook site to book your experience.
