Expanded Holiday and Christmas time family venue to open Nov. 24
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Botanic Garden will host the expanded holiday attraction, Holiday Wonders at the Garden beginning with the lighting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 24 and running through Dec. 30 at Memphis Botanic Garden.
Holiday Wonders at the Garden opens with special guests on site to ‘flip the switch’ at 6:15 p.m. Nov. 24, illuminating both the City of Memphis Christmas Tree and the broader Trees Alight venue for the first time.
Holiday Wonders at the Garden will feature three distinct areas, each with a different theme and catering to families, couples and groups.
Snowy Nights is the outdoor, interactive, family-oriented venue. It is a continuation of the popular Snowy Nights in My Big Backyard.
Sculptures Bright will light up the growing Sculpture Garden in interesting and evocative ways. The Sculpture Garden features diverse art from many well-known, local artists. Adjacent to Sculptures Bright and located in the Rose Garden area will be the Ikea Outdoor Lounge featuring snacks, hot chocolate, adult beverages and fire tables for warming.
Trees Alight will feature the City of Memphis Christmas Tree as well as a nightly LED light show located in the Conifer Garden.
Special Note: A limited version of the Trees Alight light show will be visible without charge, nightly (including nights when the Garden is closed) to traffic driving on Cherry Road between Park & Southern.
A series of special evenings are scheduled throughout the season including:
• Community Night with free admission to the first 1,000 guests on Monday, Dec. 11
• Family Thursday with reduced admission ($3.00) for all children over the age of 2 on Thursday, Dec. 14 (only) when a family brings an unwrapped gift for Porter-Leath.
• Date Night with extended hours (until 10 p.m.) on Saturday, Dec. 16
• Sunday with the Sculptures on Sunday evening, Dec. 17
• On My Last Nerve Night* on Tuesday, Dec. 26
Memphis Botanic Garden will also introduce Winter Wonderland Engagements at the Garden, which includes four marriage proposal options to help guys “pop the question.” Memphis Botanic Garden staff will help plan the night: guide them to a romantic, semi-private area, and work to sneak their family, friends and even a photographer in to share in this special moment! For more information, call 901-636-4125.
Advance purchase tickets go on sale today ($8 for Garden Members and $10 for non-members); they are both discounted and strongly encouraged. Memphis Botanic Garden will have reserved ticket times with timed entry to cut down on waiting and lines.
