JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – Historic Jonesborough’s holiday season officially kicks off with the annual Lighting of the Tree 6 p.m. Nov. 25 at Courthouse Square in downtown Jonesborough.
The large Frasier fir will be ceremoniously lit and lead Jonesborough into the Christmas season. Old Saint Nick will also be in attendance in his sleigh for pictures and visits with children. Musical entertainment includes the choirs from Jonesborough Elementary, Grandview Elementary, the Madrigal Singers from David Crockett High School and cast of USO Christmas show at Jonesborough Repretory Theatre. Santa will tell a story that leads into the tree lighting.
Other events taking place Saturday include Small Business Saturday. Jonesborough rolls out the welcome mat so patrons can enjoy extended hours until 8 p.m., giveaways, special sales and more.
Whoville Christmas takes place 11 a.m.to 3 p.m. See the Grinch and other Whoville characters as Jonesborough transforms into a Whoville town. Dress as a favorite Whoville character and receive a treat from the Grinch. A gingerbread house making class begins at 1 p.m. at the International Storytelling Center, free for ages 5-12 years.
