JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – Jonesborough’s McKinney Center is now accepting entries for the Sixth Annual Juried Art Exhibition that will take place April 13-May 5. Digital submissions are due 3 p.m. March 19. Digital images will be organized by McKinney Center staff and submitted electronically to the juror.
All forms of art will be accepted such as mixed media, painting, photography, sculpture, wood, ceramic and jewelry. Entries must be original works completed within the last two years and not have been exhibited previously at the McKinney Center, and not copied from copyrighted or published art or photographs. Artists who submit entries must be at least 18 years of age.
Entry fees include a nonrefundable fee of $35 for one to three works of art. Up to three additional entries may be submitted for $10 each. Notification of acceptance/rejection will be emailed to artists by March 25.
Prizes will be awarded to the artists with the top three entries at the opening reception on Friday, April 13. Best in Show will receive $1,000, second place will receive $600, and third place will receive $400. This year’s juror is Arnaldo Ugarte, Sculpture Conservation Technician, Kykuit, the Rockefeller Estate, New York.
Ugarte studied sculpture as well as industrial design at The Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. He has worked in various foundries and other institutions, including the Donald M. Kendall Sculpture Park at Pepsi-Co. In addition, Ugarte has assisted many well-known artists in their personal studios and foundries such as Frank Stella, Louise Bourgeois, Kiki Smith and Erick Fischl and others.
Over his professional career, Ugarte has served in an assortment of local juried art shows and has participated as a consultant in assistance to other art curators. His 20-year practice as a sculpture conservation technician includes maintaining the outdoor sculpture collection.
