JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – The new artist exhibition featuring ceramist Jess Parks and photographer Mary Blair opens with a reception 6-8 p.m. Oct. 13 and runs through Nov. 17 at the McKinney Center.
Jess Parks moved to Jonesborough and earned her B.A. from ETSU, where she studied art design with a concentration in pottery. Since moving to Jonesborough, Jess Parks has showcased her work in local and regional art shows. She also develops her own glazes which have caught the eyes of prestigious gallery owners. Her work is now in places such as the New Morning Gallery at Biltmore Village in Asheville.
Mary Blair is a Jonesborough, Tennessee native. Her love for photography began when she wanted to capture the people and places where she was living. Starting as a hobby, her photography was quickly recognized, taking her love in a new direction. She recently had her work shown in the Journeys of Women exhibition, and has been featured in many other media outlets. She recently started a small business in the process.
The McKinney Center houses the Jonesborough Mary B. Martin Program for the Arts and boasts of a mission to be, “committed to inspiring the people of our area through both the appreciation of and the participation in the arts as a form of personal and collective expression.” The objective of the program is to “bring the community at large closer together and show as an example to other communities the creative influence that the arts can bring to their quality of life.” The McKinney Center is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday in the Town of Jonesborough.
