MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Get in the game! ‘Big League Fun’ is a new baseball-themed temporary exhibit that opens Saturday, May 20 through Sept. 10 at the Discovery Center.
The new exhibit includes 2,000 square-feet of hands-on discovery featuring fun baseball activities, simulated game experiences, and trivia challenges that encourage important educational concepts for fans of all ages. Exhibit activities emphasize the science and math behind baseball and reflect national academic standards for school-age children while encouraging play and an active healthy lifestyle.
On opening day, special interactive stations will be set up around the museum where guests can dissect a baseball, test their reaction times, learn about why different sports require different types of balls, and participate in a scavenger hunt. Plus popcorn will be available first-come first-served.
Featured elements of the exhibit include:
• Test skills and get active: Practice pitching, throwing, fielding, hitting and base-running. Visit the bullpen and pitch into the strike zone; work on your swing and step up to the plate; lead off, run to second or back to the bag; throw from the infield or outfield with simulated plays; and grab a glove for catching practice.
• Explore the world of professional baseball: Turn yourself into a professional baseball player! Choose your player position and jersey number, add your name and snap your photo in front of a baseball card backdrop. Pretend to be the announcer and deliver the play-by-play using real game clips and sound effects. Learn about the teams that make up Major League Baseball, vocabulary and rules, and how to calculate statistics.
• There’s nothing like a day at the game: Head through the gates and hear the ballpark come alive! Test your baseball knowledge with a challenging trivia game, and make your ballpark experience fun and realistic with props, costumes, a dugout with a bullpen phone, and lots of real baseball equipment, memorabilia and graphics to explore.
‘Big League Fun’ is included with general admission and free for members.
The exhibit’s national tour is sponsored by The Marcus Corporation.
