HUNTINGDON, Tenn. – The 6th Annual Derby Day is a good old-fashioned tailgate party 3 p.m. May 6 at The Dixie. The event is free to the public.
The Dixie ushers in the big race with The Cherry Avenue Band playing bluegrass music, a great backdrop to the Southern food, fun, fellowship and watching fast horses attendees can experience. Additionally there is a selection of crafts and games for children.
A thoroughbred racehorse and jockey are in attendance for photo ops, provided by the Huntingdon Animal Clinic.
Auction items given by local businesses for both the silent auction and the live auction are also featured. Auction proceeds benefit The Dixie’s Academic Enrichment programs. At 5pm, we move inside The Dixie hosts a viewing of the Derby 5 p.m. in the Hal Holbrook Theatre.
Awards are given for the Best Derby Hat (women), Best Derby Attire (men and children), Best Derby Dish, Best Derby Pie and Best Tailgate.
