WARTBURG, Tenn. – The month of May in Morgan County has been designated as Mountain Laurel Month. Celebratory events are happening throughout the month, with the culmination of the events being the Tennessee Mountain Laurel Festival 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Saturday, May 20 at the courthouse square in downtown Wartburg.
Enjoy small town ambiance with entertaining and enjoyable activities for all ages.
An early morning tethered hot air balloon ride combined with homemade sausage and biscuits, and fried pies will begin the celebration 7 a.m. The fun continues with a variety of entertainment throughout the afternoon. Five bands will perform throughout the day. Square dancing, Tenpenny Rapper Sword Dancers and line dancing choreographed to the new Morgan County tourism song will add a festive atmosphere to the event.
Additional events will include a quilt show, featuring an original-designed Mountain Laurel fabric. The unique quilt will be awarded to the donation drawing winner. Vintage cars will line the street for attendees’ viewing pleasure. Guests can treasure hunt the area and have their photos taken in the uniquely decorated Mountain Laurel gazebo. The area will be overflowing with food and craft vendors.
A designated kids zone will include a bounce house, sidewalk chalk drawing, storytelling, games, radio-controlled cars and barn in a box petting spot.
For outdoor enthusiasts, there are 24 designated mountain laurel trails. National park rangers will lead hikes throughout the day.
