HUNTINGDON, Tenn. – The Dixie Performing Arts & Academic Enrichment Center and the Town of Huntingdon host Main Street Christmas, an annual street festival 2 p.m. Dec. 9 on the historic court square. Streets will close to traffic 1 p.m. Dec. 9 on the Court Square.
Main Street Christmas abounds with the quaint charm of hometown Christmases past. Live nativity, carolers, open shops, hot chocolate, Santa and an official tree lighting where the community welcomes Christmas together is sure to put guests in the Christmas spirit.
Activities include pictures with Santa by A. Wilson Photography, 1:30- 4:30 p.m. (outdoors, weather permitting); caroling on The Dixie Stage and on the Courthouse steps; a live nativity; ISTEA train until 4 p.m.; It’s A Wonderful Life free showing 4 p.m. at the Court Theatre; Holiday Concert with Steven Whitson 4 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Huntingdon with refreshments and nativity displays until 7 p.m.
The Lighting of the Tree takes place 5:15 p.m. at City Hall followed by holiday characters 5:30-6:30 p.m. on the Square and the annual Christmas Parade at 6:30 p.m. beginning on West Main Street at Carroll Bank and Trust, the south side of the courthouse, then east on Main Street. It will turn on 5th Avenue and conclude in that area.
The Colonial Tea Room will host Mrs. Claus all afternoon. Children can help decorate cookies, make reindeer food, have their faces painted and write a letter to Santa to place in the North Pole Mailbox, all while sipping on hot chocolate topped with snowmen from the North Pole. $5 for supplies.
Local shops will be open with Christmas specials and giveaways throughout the day. FirstBank will have vendors set up in lobby at the Main Branch on Main Street. Clark Street Baptist Church will have food and Christmas treats at the FirstBank Community Building.
Additionally, the highly anticipated Christmas show, “A Christmas on Broadway” takes place 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 16 at The Dixie Performing Arts & Academic Enrichment Center.
This year’s holiday event will feature special guest Kellye Cash with The Dixie Children’s Choir. Also, reigning Miss Tennessee Caty Davis will make a special appearance.
