NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Opening for dinner service, The Mockingbird, the new concept from Maneet Chauhan’s Morph Hospitality Group, the team behind Chauhan Ale & Masala House and Tànsuǒ, will officially open Aug. 14 at 121A 12th Avenue North in The Gulch area.
The modern diner is led by the talented culinary duo of executive chef Brian Riggenbach and front-of-house extraordinaire Mikey Corona, who are also partners in the project.
Inspired by the restaurant’s namesake, chef Riggenbach has created The Mockingbird’s menu to mimic its surroundings, offering comfort food favorites influenced by the many global elements that make up American culture and cuisine. He has crafted the menu of varied flavors from Mexican, Italian, French, Korean, Japanese, Southern American and more cuisines. For example, guests can enjoy Tray Chic, an old school lunch tray of house-made summer sausage, chicken liver mousse, sweet onion jam and toast points.
These dishes make up the small plates, large plates, sides and desserts on the menu, and a playful cocktail menu features adult milkshakes made with product from Nashville-based Pied Piper Creamery, as well as seasonal punches and libations.
Designed by London Parfitt, The Mockingbird is reminiscent of the Art Deco era with a balance of sleek furniture featuring rich woods, brass and stone in a masculine slate grey palate, with abundant indoor greenery, pops of color and subtle nods to Mexican influence. The space is filled with natural light, and colorful banquets and booths are reminiscent of the classic American diner. Elements such as a custom, over-sized, three-dimensional mirror in the shape of a bird’s head and hand-painted fixtures in the restrooms will show diners Riggenbach and Corona’s personality and humor throughout the space. The two-story eatery features two expansive patio deck areas as well.
Riggenbach and Corona, partners in life and in business, relocated to Nashville 11 months ago to spearhead their newest venture. Each has worked for more than 10 years in some of Chicago’s best dining establishments, and founded the Yo Soy Underground Supper club in the Windy City. Riggenbach and Maneet were friends for years before he was named a “Chopped Champion” in season 24 of the Food Network show, and decided to go into business together following his victory.
